Snoring
Snoring is the noise created during sleep when the respiratory structures of your throat vibrate during breathing. Up to 50% of Americans snore. Benign snoring is generally considered a mild affliction; however, snoring can cause sleep deprivation to the snorer and bed partner, drowsiness , irritability, and lack of focus. Some studies have linked snoring to an increased risk for heart attack and stroke.
Treatment options for snoring are similar to those for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Because more complex conditions, such as OSA, can be consistent with the symptom of snoring, an assessment must be done to verify that no other more serious sleep affliction exists.
